Media Advisory
May 01, 2018
Today kicks off Foot Health Awareness Month in Canada.
Feet are both a critical component and gauge of our well-being, and yet, they rarely cross people’s minds — unless they are in pain. Foot Health Awareness Month aims to change that oversight, and the Canadian Podiatric Medical Association (CPMA) is leading this initiative in Canada.
This past year saw foot health in the news in a couple of ways, bringing articles on legislation regarding heels in the workplace, with both Ontario and Manitoba seeking to join British Columbia in preventing employers from mandating that employees wear heels (with a few notable exceptions). The other notable flurry of articles involved a Windsor, Ontario couple returning from a Punta Cana vacation with a hookworm infection, contacted through their feet. Feet are also regularly spotlighted in health articles on diabetes, arthritis, and edema, as well as safety shoes.
This month we will be sending out press releases on four topics (the first of which accompanies this media advisory):
- General Foot Health
- Diabetes
- Arthritis
- Heel Pain
We would be happy to support you in any relevant articles you may have in the works. For information about foot health in general, including statistics and general facts, to speak to a representative, or to arrange to have a Podiatrist comment on a story you are writing, please contact: Mr. Joel Alleyne, Executive Director, CPMA, at (780)-720-8771 or (888)-220-3338.
